Even those passing through, like Daniel Friemark, appreciate not only the food but the character and unique location that Roy’s brings to the Barstow dining scene. While some guests note minor quirks, such as a soggy burger bun or the occasional colorful crowd, the overall sentiment is one of genuine satisfaction and fond appreciation for this time-honored cafe.
Whether you're a traveler craving a satisfying meal on the road or a local seeking the comfort of a traditional American diner with a southwestern twist, Roy’s Cafe delivers a flavorful, heartwarming experience that warms the soul as much as the palate.
Stopped for a quick bite to eat, first time here. Food was great! My grilled ham and cheese was good and so were my mashed potatoes with country gravy. My boyfriend’s burger was also really good! Great service, both the cook and waitress were kind and made sure we were enjoying everything. It is an old school diner type of a cafe and may not be as up to date as some would like, but we had no problem with it. Solid option for some good food while traveling!
We pulled up here on our way to Vegas today looking for an old style American diner. Roy’s was right on point and delivered exactly that. Classic decor, a classic diner menu and food that was cooked perfectly and tasted great! Obviously diner prices have gone up a little but it’s still great to be able to relive the good old days
I like Roy's for it's unique location. Every now and again, I'll pass thru this area when I wanna take the scenic route from LA to Vegas. Again, Roy's has been debut on the front cover of the "Cathay" magazine for Cathay Pacific Airlines. Hopefully this will draw more tourism to Roy's so they may get the funding to complete their renovation project.
The food was delicious, and the service was quick. However, if you order a burger, the bun will be soggy. Also, there appear to be a lot of interesting characters that come in. Overall, it was a delicious meal.
Happened to be in Barstow. Stopped by Roy’s Diner on Route 66 and tried the pastrami cheeseburger with grilled onions, onion rings, and the carne asada street tacos. The Pastrami burger was really good — fresh ingredients and just the right amount of pastrami. I wish they gave more than just a few Onion rings however they were nice, crispy and large. The tacos were okay. The portion was big, but the carne asada didn’t have much flavor and had way too much lettuce. Overall, it’s a cool spot to grab a bite if you’re driving through. I immediately noticed the ceiling, it's blackened with dirt. Needs quick paint. Overall decent experience.
Bianca was a treat. She brought the extra chocolate shake in the stainless steel mixer, which was an AWESOME touch. And she was bubbly and you could tell, having a fun day at the "burger joint". For a smash burger, it was thick and juicy and the chocolate shake was great. Jeanne's chocolate desert was a little more chocolate, but since I was able to polish that off for her, it finished nicely. Wholeheartedly recommend - and Bianca needs a raise.
Stopped on the way through to Vegas and it did not disappoint! Friendly staff, amazing selection of food to choose from and great prices. Hash browns are amazing, husband had an omelette and I had pancakes, which were delicious. Raspberry tea is lovely and they also sell Jaritos lots of Mexican food choices as well as normal breakfast and lunch options. Will 100% return when we are next passing through here!
